PThurm’s Day Off

Readers: “Ladies and gentlemen, you are such a wonderful crowd, we’d like to play a little tune for you. It’s one of my personal favorites and I’d like to dedicate it to a young man who doesn’t think he’s seen anything good today – Cameron Frye, this one’s for you.”

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of my favorite movies.  Ever.  And today, I channelled Ferris.  I should say now that I love my job.  Not in the “my boss might someday see this or one of my five readers might send him the link so I love my job” way; I truly love it.  But, every now and then, one needs a day off, Ferris style.  So, today was mine.  I did things that made ME happy, including sleeping in, eating breakfast (a simple nutritional joy I rarely make/have time for), playing with my dog, cooking, shopping, and getting a massage.  And, perhaps unlike Cameron, I saw something “good” – the return of me.  A simple recharge, and here I am.

Tomorrow I’ll go back to work.  And love it some more.  But, today was a great reminder to take the day off every once in a while.  We probably won’t regret missing a conference call or another meeting, but we might miss going to the top of the Sears Tower or pretending to be the Sausage King of Chicago.  After all, Ferris was right when he said “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
